P2 humanoid robot

The P series were the first walking robots to have a functioning upper and lower body. Each model P1, P2 and P3 became more sophisticated. The information learned during the P series were applied to create the Asimo series...

P3 (1997-2003)

The Honda P3 was first introduced in 1996.. It
is adult-sized, and can climb stairs and execute other common tasks though not autonomously. While it still appears occasionally in public, it has been largely replaced by the Asimo.

A long video of the P3 featuring an extended game of pseudo-soccer - the robot shows an ability to bend and hold/drop objects, but clear insensitivity to visual experience.

P2 (1994-1997)

The P2 was the first true self-contained humanoid robot. No longer in active use, but continues to be displayed at Robodex and other Honda promotional events.

This picture shows the P2 at the Robodex 2000 trade show. Note the larger and more primitive appearance compared to Asimo. In spite of this, the P2 is capable of using tools to hammer and tighten bolds on machines.

P1 (1993-1996)

This was Honda's original walking robot integrating an upper and lower body. Honda built 7 experimental walking robots befor P1. Historical footage of these models can be seen at the http://asimo.honda.com website and pictures of the entire Honda robot series may be found below.

HOnda CEO with his replacements"There is only one condition in which we can imagine managers not needing subordinates, and masters not needing slaves. This would be if every machine could work by itself, at the word of command or by intelligent anticipation."
