JVC J4 Humanoid Robot
JVC has developed a 20 cm tall humanoid robot of similar size and shape to Sony's QRIO robot. This robot is remote-controlled via Bluetooth. It is being promoted as a central controller for remote devices, e.g., home entertainment systems.

Nice shot of the JVC robot kicking a soccer ball - look for it in Robocup 2005 in the Humanoid League! A head-mounted camera can send images to a Bluetooth-enabled PC.

The figure to the left shows just how small the 26 degree of freedom (not much less than the original Asimo) JVC robot is. Clearly, creating tiny humanoid bodies with many degrees of freedom is not a huge issue - but adding sensors and fine motor control is. The system is 20 cm tall and weighs 770g

"There is only one condition in which we can imagine managers not needing subordinates, and masters not needing slaves. This would be if every machine could work by itself, at the word of command or by intelligent anticipation."
